For me, Quakeworld worked pretty well assuming most of the players had dialup. The problem was that most people on there were really good and when an occasional broadband player got on, you couldn't take two steps before getting splattered by a rocket launcher. This got much worse with Quake 3 and UT. The LPB hate was strong in those games.
But then you had Reactor in on dialup in Australia with like a 450 ping killing everybody, so I don't know.
All I remember about Blood mp was ILA spamming dynamite at me. Kali, Mplayer - made no difference. I was only there to get blown up.
