RE: Horizon Forbidden West: dank meme
There are three major memory manufacturers, and they're all selling mostly to AI-related interests. As a result, RAM, VRAM, and flash memory are very expensive. An RTX 5070 Ti is about $1200. 32gb of DDR5 memory is about $450-500. CPUs haven't changed a whole lot. An Intel i7 14700k runs about $380. Intel motherboards for 14th-gen CPUs are all over the place, but you could find something decent for $200. Nvme M.2 2tb drives are pricey, with Crucial at around $250 and Samsung as high as $400. Higher transfer speeds = higher prices, but you probably wouldn't notice any difference. Lian Li Lancool cases sell for about $100, and they're nice. A decent 1440p monitor goes for $150-200. I strongly recommend headphones. Although Senheisser has fallen off in quality, they're still good, imo -- prices range around $150-200.
The big spends are vidya cards, RAM, and Nvme drives (no one uses plain old SSD anymore, and certainly not metal disk read-write drives).
If you are happy with 1080p and 8gb of VRAM, you can reduce the video card cost by a lot - $460-80 for an RTX 5060 - still outrageous.
I list Intel and Nvidia owing to old prejudices. All the cool kids buy AMD, but the processors and cards are predictably showing their cracks now, or so I hear. YMMV.
