so you determine that the router is being attacked by the modem because it drops wired local connections? have you even determined that the local connections are being dropped?
anyway, you should try connecting and setting up the modem to a lan port instead of a wan port, see what happens. it might keep your router online and your local net up when your modem drops fail on you.
