I was expecting much worse. The acting was bad, and most of the time it was horribly cheesy, but had some redeeming qualities. I haven't read the comic, but the film had a particular comic style to it (lack of plot depth with an emphasis on one-liners, camera angles and stage setup). As far as movies go, I'd say it was better than the new Superman, and a little worse than Constantine, which makes is about as good as Van Helsing.
