RE: They are making a prequel to The Thing
The Thing -- both versions -- is one of the best scifi/horror movies of all time.
The '50s version is great because of its originality, setting, general weirdness, GREAT dialogue, and James Arness as the carrot from outer space.
The John Carpenter version is great because it has a quality that's rare in horror films: it's actually scary. It also has Kurt Russel in one of his Snake Pliskin modes and Wilford Brimley as a guy who isn't a curmudgeonly old plank selling Quaker Oatmeal or Liberty Medical Supplies.
So I welcome a prequel, though I don't know how they'll make it. What are they going to do? Show people going about their daily arctic business for two hours and end with somebody finding the buried spacecraft? 'Cause that's all there is.
