No. The only way you can die in the L4D series is by using your health pack. What this does is make you hit the wrong key so that you use a pipe bomb or boomer vomit instead. Death occurs more quickly if you get separated from your team, so you should always explore every room, especially dark basements. You may be tempted to use a melee weapon, thinking that this will reduce friendly fire. It won't. Your teammates will stop whatever they're doing and immediately position themselves in front of your axe or baseball bat or weedeater or whatever.
You may have been telling me to find some lava to jump into as a bit of dismissive humor, in which case I must laugh appreciatively. However, in the event that you were serious, I must emphasize that I have not seen lava in the L4D games. You can be sure that I would have made the most of it.
