guinea pigs...
remarkably intelligent.
remarkably.
they instantly pick up on things.
both my pigs like to nibble on my fingers. when they bite too hard ill give them a little smack with the finger they bit. they will come back to nibble on the same finger but much much lighter. never building up force to cross the pain threshold again. they instantly just figure out they hurt you and that smack was a warning smack. it takes a lot for that understand to occur. they usually forget the warning smack the next day and it takes about a 3 days for them to permanently stop - depending on age and/or personality it can take up to a week. the younger one took a week.
the young pig i have is really interesting.
he came from the petstore scared of everything. every chance he got he would break free from me and go hide in a dark confined area. he was probably abused. he is very cowardly and emotionally needy. he prefers to snuggle up to me and use me as a hiding spot. and hes really clingy when he does it. he'll even follow me around just to nestle in me somewhere. and he's scared of EVERYTHING.
my cat has grown so much and is like a million times larger than my young pig now. my cat also wants to kill the pigs all the time. the younger pigs cage is at a place where the cat can get to it, so the cat is always at the cage harassing the pig. sometimes ill forget the door open and the cat will get in and attempt to tear the pig apart. luckily im around to hear my baby pig screaming and i break it up in time.
anyways, long story shot - the fucking pig grew some balls today. i kept hearing this weird faint chattering sound but never payed attention to it. then i heard my cat let out a scream and when i looked back the cat was wiping its nose with its paw. it had gotten bit, by the pig.
now every time the cat gets near the cage, the pig just chatters its teeth and the cat backs the fuck off. its hilarious and its completely shocking to see such a turn of personality. really shocking. i still cant believe it.
