First, start by entering lobbies with games that haven't started yet. If you join a quick match currently in progress, there's a good chance that there's only an open spot because 1.) the team is boot happy or 2.) somebody raged because the team is horrible or they were a griever.
Stick to only playing official servers and you'll easily avoid any cheats or retardedly modded servers (some of the mods can be fun for a short while but the true gameplay is my favorite).
Finally, the community can be bad but it's honestly no worse than any other multiplayer game. Embrace the glory of the internet and all that it has done to the people of this world.
