Subject: RE: meh videocard

See the previous page for a couple of recommendations. The HD 5670 should play L4D/2 with medium settings, but if you can afford it and if your power supply supports it, get something better like an HD 5770 or 5830. A 5850 would be great if you could swing it and if it wouldn't blow up your computer. You could also look in to comparable Nvidia cards, but Source seems to like AMD/ATI a little better.

To disable onboard graphics:

1. Download the latest drivers for your new card. Put them on the desktop or somewhere you can easily find them.

2. Shut down and physically install your new card. Move the monitor plug that goes to your integrated graphics to your new vidya card.

2. Restart and hit your Del key (or possibly F10 or whatever key your mfr has assigned) to go into BIOS.

3. Navigate to something like "Onboard Devices." Look for onboard video or onboard graphics. Disable this and save the BIOS settings.

4. Restart the computer. Ignore Windows if it offers to update your hardware. Install the drivers you downloaded.

5. Restart.

6. The drivers should detect your proper settings automatically, but you can fiddle with the driver software (e.g., Catalyst Control Center) if necessary.

7. Profit.

Warning: the more powerful a vidya card is, the more heat it will generate and the more it will tax your Shoe Carnival power supply. Do research on your PSU and ensure that your case has decent ventilation.
