and wtf do you mean "original ideas". There's been 54,000 zombie games, movies, books, and comics in the past 10 years alone. How are you supposed to come up with an original idea about the dead reanimating and trying to eat the living? Do you want Doc Brown to pull up out of nowhere in a DeLoreon and have the survivors jump in, go back in time, and try to stop it from all happening? The show and book that it's all based on have to somewhat follow what real people would do in this situation, so with that said what would be an "original never before done" idea?
Though to your point, a lot of the characters and situations are cliche... but this is something that the producers told of before it premiered. They're not trying to hide the fact, but rather capitalize on it.
