The best way to do this is to run resource monitor (from within perfmon.exe iirc)
YOu can see disk access, net access, etc in real time, sorted by thread. In my experience, anything that hits the disk is going to be the bad.
In my opinion though, avast is probably the culprit: it is probably scanning the packed archive files for every texture access. This is a bad thing. easy fix is to dump avast and download microsoft security essentials.
