I want to add that around the time you develop nuclear weapons, the game becomes more active and fun. This is about 5 hours into a scenario.
Also, save your game. Two times now I have managed to hold off full on assaults by 3 nations at once only to have the game crash. I was so caught up in the "action" that I wasn't saving and it was all for naught.
