Subject: RE: ITT we discuss how to play infected in versus

The key to Infected in Versus is the same as playing as Survivors, if you go off by yourself you're doomed.

The key is to attack with at least one other teammate, and preferably wait for all 4 to attack. There are multiple strategies people use depending on what infected you have currently spawned. Here's a few things to keep in mind and watch for:

Spitters are useless without a horde, so if you're going to use them wait until a Boomer pukes on everybody so that they can't see to avoid the spit. They're also best used on incapacitated Survivors, so if you have a Spitter and you see somebody is down, wait until their team tries to get them back up then spit on them. It'll give the infected an extra 6 or 7 seconds to respawn while waiting for the spit to go away.

Jockey's can be one of the hardest infected to master. They can be knocked off of somebody with a simple melee attack. They also work well with Spitters as if you wait for the spit, you can then jump on somebody and jockey them right into it. They can be a good distraction to use for a Boomer, giving the Boomer time to get in puke range.

Charger is pretty much the king shit. If you suck at hitting targets, just punching them does a ton of damage too. On some maps you'll hear the term "Death Charge", meaning it's possible to actually charge Survivors to their death in certain spots. Usually hard to do as most good players will avoid these areas like the plague. Anywhere there is a small pathway or staircase (example the escalators in the mall map) will give you a good opportunity to Charge through all the Survivors and do decent damage.

Smokers can be used to pull people into spit from a Spitter, as well as pick somebody off after a Boomer blinds a team. If the highlighted color on somebody is purple, it means they've been blinded by a Boomer. So if you see 3 purple halos and one green halo, try to smoke the guy in the green since he's the only one who can see.

Learn decent spawn spots. If you spawn too early, the survivors can hear you and will be looking for you. Likewise, if you come running at people from a mile away, you'll be lucky to do any damage at all. It's all about finding tight areas to attack, or waiting for distractions before you do (such as a horde).

If you don't do it yet, you'll start using the "Tab" key more often in game. It just pulls up a screen that shows all of the survivors health. If you're playing against a good team sometimes your best bet is to concentrate on whoever has the lowest health to slow them all down.

Every infected except the Charger can be knocked around if the survivor melee shoves you. So if you're a Jockey and you hop on somebody that has a teammate near by, don't expect to last long.

Hunters do a ton of damage if you can manage to pounce somebody for more than a few seconds. They are good for pinning people in spit from the Spitter.

There are 4 infected that incapacitate people, the Hunter, the Smoker, the Jockey, and the Charger if you use the main Charge attack. Keep this in mind as if you're going to coordinate an attack, you will want everyone to try to grab a separate survivor to take them out. I can't count the amount of games that ended with a Smoker grabbing me and a Jockey jumping on the guy that was coming to my rescue.
