Stalker is tough at first, you just have to learn the mechanics. The main problem with SoC, is that the quests are slightly broken, so knowing where you need to go next to progress the story can get confusing as hell. However, once you get some better gear, it's not that bad. Just keep in mind that if you keep getting killed from radiation or anomalies, you're probably in the wrong area.
