The Towering Inferno seems to be an apology for The Poseidon Adventure. Much of it was still stupid, but the cast was far superior. I suspect that the cast rewrote a lot of lines and fixed a lot of embarrassing silliness. Unfortunately, they seemed unable to do anything about Robert Wagner's inoperable talent problem or Paul Newman's leisure suit.
