Still timed but with heavy emphasis on staying mobile, using every sign, trap, potion and ability at your disposal and fighting as dirty as you possibly can, at least during the initial stages while you level up the swordsman path.
Even fights with regular mobs can be tricky if you don't pay attention, you also can't just run up to a bunch of guys and start hacking anymore, that will only get you killed hilariously fast.
