I haven't tried taking a vending machine against a boss, seems every time I fight one of them I can't resist the temptation to murder them with the typhoon.
Note that fridges/vending machines and the heavy carry aug can also be used for a pacifist playthrough: Instead of throwing them at the baddies, use them to block doors and prevent them from getting in, this is a particularly hilarious way to tackle a bit in the game where you are ambushed and need to hold the area until a timer runs out as baddies pour in from the various doors, or in this case, don't.
Combine the heavy carry aug with the turret capture ability for some easy Ghost points and a lot of dead guards.
