RE: the witcher 2
The first Witcher was pretty good until I got to chapter 3, at which point it became a slideshow. I'm not sure what was going on there -- probably a NOD32 conflict on top of CDP's horrible optimization. Other people made it through the whole game and enjoyed it hugely, so I'll take the blame.
However, another problem for me was the monster books. To fight the monsters, you had to buy books to learn about them, which would have been an interesting conceit if the books didn't cost a fortune. To make money, you had to do barfights or learn that stupid gambling minigame, which I was never able to understand -- again, I'll take the blame.
I'll wind up getting Witcher 2 2.0 2/0 2wentyeleventy eventually when they put the whole business on disk and sell it at Walmart for $20. That should be in 2014 when it won't work on Windows 9 Cloud Tablet Steve Jobs Tribute Edition. I hope it's better than Medieval Total War 2 Super Framatan Edition, which only worked on XP and turned out to be painfully boring.
