Wow.. Grim Fandango was pretty damn awesome
Seeing that it's still a well regarded game, I decided to give it a go. I have to say, I never played a game that I loved and hated so much all at the same time. There were some very irritating and tedious aspects of the mechanics which would have normally ruined any other game for me, but the voice acting, humor, and above all, the story was at a level that I never experienced in a game before, which more than made up for any possible shortcomings. It was, however, VERY fucking difficult. So much so, that I had to resort to a walk through quite a bit, which I've never needed for a game before. If it wasn't for that, I don't think I'd ever complete it even with infinite patience. Still, it didn't ruin the experience, and I must say, this is one of the best games I've ever played.
