I don't remember your system, but I seem to recall it was pretty decent except for the graphics.
The thing is, you really can't turn an OEM computer into a gaming computer. People will say you can, that things have changed since the old days, etc., etc., but a gaming PC is not the same animal as even a good OEM multimedia computer. Even a weak self- or custom-built gaming PC is going to be faster and less glitchy than a seemingly more powerful machine built by Dell, HP, etc. This is just fact and something people have to learn through a long chain of agonizing experiences.
Consider a guide like the one

. Build it yourself or get someone to do it for you. Quality parts and a non-screwy Windows install = all the difference.
Or go with a console. Just saying.
