I think it's nice they gave you a receipt.
This reminds me of when I was in Nam. Saigon had this place that sold ashtrays. That's all the sold. We called it the ashtray store. One day, I bought a whole sack full of ashtrays for $1.50. Probably thirty ashtrays or around that, all for $1.50. I sent them home to my sister and told her to keep them for me. She forgot where she stashed them. To this day, I still haven't found them. Anyway, that ashtray store got blown up (nothing hostile -- a space heater accident) so I can't get replacements even though I kept the receipt. The receipt thing in your story made me think of the ashtrays. Good times.
