The penalty for not showing up varies from place to place. The severity or novelty of the penalty may depend on how many truants they've had lately. One way to get dismissed (so of course you shouldn't do this) is to wait until certain questions are addressed to you, ignore the questions, and ask if you can personally depose the accused because you need to get some things straight in your mind. Be sure to wear suspenders and hook your thumbs in them. Also, mop your forehead with a handkerchief.
