I was considering it. There is both a C, and basic compiler available for free for the device. However, since it's fairly simple, I thought I'd be able to do it entirely in ASM and be able to figure out the exact timing. All it'll basically be doing is reading two quadrature encoders, comparing the differences, and outputting a proportional parallel signal. The math should be extremely simple, and the code short.
