RE: Poor mn
I am only half-seriously considering going melee with my wizard. This means that I am curious and not ruling out the build.
The way I understand it, you use the passive skill Critical Mass to reduce spell cooldowns (critical hits have a chance to reduce cooldowns by one second). I guess you would also need something to generate Arcane Power, like Prodigy.
Then you get skills that increase the likelihood of producing critical hits while in the middle of an enemy cluster, e.g., Spectral Blade/Deep Cuts, Energy Twister/Wicked Wind, Explosive Blast/Obliterate, etc.
Then you need something to stunlock enemies, such as Frost Nova. And of course you need endless protection, so you would have to get Diamond Skin/Prismatic or something.
Even stunlock and Diamond Skin might not be enough, so your weapon would have to give you Life on Hit, and somehow you need to get gear that raises chance to crit if not crit damage.
I have seen a youtube of some guy who built a budget melee wizard for under a million gp, but I am skeptical. This really seems like a high-dollar build.
It also seems like a build that could go horribly wrong if you get elites that can out-stunlock you. The build's success seems to be engine-like, organic -- everything depends on sustaining critical damage for almost zero cooldowns as well as keeping up the stunlock.
Anyway, it would be nice if it could be used successfully against stupid elite combinations.
