It's a worrisome thing that I actually read some of the posts on Blizzard's forum -- first, because I accidentally pay attention to certain mental and social defectives, and second, because I delude myself into believing all kinds of improbable ideas.
For example, I read an entire thread in which people spammed tortured English and tubloads of abbreviations to espouse the virtues of Magic Find. The premise was that you should use MF not to get an extra crappy rare from an elite, but to increase your chance of getting a good rare. Moreover, MF increases the likelihood that some farfetched mythical thing will drop from a white mob or a barrel or a weapon rack.
I have seen something like this happen in my own experience. I have a bit of incidental MF on my barbarian's gear, and I can confirm that rare items do occasionally pop out of destructible objects and the corpses of trash mobs. I am convinced that this would not happen without MF. Why am I convinced? Because I read the earnest, misspelled, fractured native English of pimply adolescents on the Blizzard forum.
