Primary professions come in two flavours: gathering and crafting.
There are also secondary professions, like cooking and fishing. I am doing archaeology to get a skeleton dinosaur mount.
At least that is how it was pre Pandarica patch, which just dropped today! Its the buildup for Mists of Pandaland, kicking off with a world event. Already more content added in WoW than in the entire past year or so of SW:TOR
