RE: Quick Q for Jamie
Yes I am and no it doesn't, coming from its simulator roots the core game is clunky by design and DayZ uses the exact same scheme, but I also run a couple of mods on top of DayZ to make it tolerable.
For example: One of them speeds up every single animation in the game that is supposed to be fast for the sake of gameplay, such as transitions between crouch and prone, throwing grenades, checking your gear, changing your weapon, stepping over obstacles. It just makes the game feel much snappier.

Another tones down weapon collisions with the world, so you don't have to lower and raise your weapon with 2x left ctrl every time you want to turn around in a hallway, it makes sense when you're playing vanilla Arma 2 and want to simulate the importance of short barrels in close quarters, but not in a fucking zombie game.

Another auto zooms your view when looking down a weapon's optics, normally you need to press numpad + or - to adjust it which again makes sense when you're playing vanilla Arma 2 but not so much in DayZ.

Caveat: You need to join a server that doesn't enforce what pbo files you run at launch, otherwise it won't let you join because you're running mods on top of what the server expects you to run. It's just a matter of trying until you find one. If you can find one that's running the "community base addons" mod would be even better because then you'd be able to run the super awesome and totally kickass JSRS sound mod.
The thing that you won't be able to ever improve is the inventory UI which is hardcoded into the core game and is as hilariously bad as they come. Apparently the standalone release will improve upon this but knowing the guy that originally wrote the mod, it's gonna be even worse.
