The fact that most people need to consult a "How to work the inventory system" video on Youtube prior to playing DayZ is a testament to how shitty the inventory UI in Arma 2 truly is.
The people that have been suffering through it since Operation Flashpoint are usually the ones that are sniping you from 2 miles out while you're too busy juggling cans of beans and tripping over road flares as you're sitting in the gear screen trying to figure out why all your primary weapon ammunition disappeared.
