As a fan of the original game, I still think they could have made this new game's scope a bit grander, fielding 6 units in such small maps doesn't allow for much in the way of tactics. By the end you just end up winning by spamming squadsight snipers with archangel suits instead of trying to flank and use special abilities like you're supposed to.

Originally I started the game on classic/ironman but had to stop and drop one difficulty level when the muton berserkers showed up, these guys are a pain to kill on anything higher than normal, to the point where it's almost guaranteed you're gonna lose a guy before it finally drops dead, ethereals are also a bitch on anything above higher as it feels like they *always* bounce bullets back.

Overall I'm happy with the game, the original XCOM is a particularly tough act to follow and they did an ok job at it... Now if they could only give Jagged Alliance 2 the same treatment, every single attempt at recreating that game so far has been laughably bad.
