Ultimate goal: Put so much down that my monthly mortgage payments are less than what I pay for my apartment. I'd say they'd have to be at least $100-$150 less a month to make up for the extra utility cost I'd be paying with a house. Then I'd pretty much be in the same boat spending wise, only I'll have a backyard and a garage.
