It's mds so it's actually a "pre-leukemia" but it's just easier to say leukemia. Most people actually die before it progresses to that stage anyways. What it more or less does is destroy the bone marrow until there's no more white cells or platelets so the person either goes from an infection they can't fight off or from bleeding out.
