We would have been killed quickly and repeatedly. The stone staff doesn't regen mana that fast, even near the rift There were probably ten fire and armored ogres standing six feet away from the rift. Game over.

Archers are useful in only a small number of endless maps. The Tower is one example. However, Robot created ranged enemies like gnoll grenadiers and cyclops mages expressly to murder guardians (and war mages). Economically, archers are a bargain if you have the guardian regen trinket, but this value is outweighed by all the distraction caused by ranged enemies (and gnoll hunters on ground level) utterly mauling ten archers at a time.

It's better to have a lot of high-damage traps in a gauntlet where enemies are slowed by tar, ice, or the web spinners. The best way to eliminate threatening ranged enemies is at a distance with the ice amulet and the crossbow.

At any rate, your strategy got us through wave 43 of Passages. (Necro called all the shots -- was completely responsible for strategy, including loadouts. I'd say it was a raving success.)
