I was still getting fairly good money, enough that I could buy a portal or an autoballista every wave. I was unprepared for that gnoll invasion, first because it was huge, second because the gnolls were accompanied by a killer tsunami of heavies and (by now) very tough little orcs. My ordinance and portals could not deal with this. I think it was the game telling me I should go to bed.
P.S.: I now have over 700 surplus skulls.
