Let me guess: they couldn't find a way to make team PvP dependent on the auction houses.
As for dueling, what's the point if everybody playing the game is level 60 with 8 million paragon points or whatever they call them? Nobody actually wanted to duel in Diablo 2. They wanted to gank lower-level players.
The greatest mystery surrounding D3 is why anyone is still playing it. At least you can mod Oblivion. Does D3 let you fill a room with watermelons? I think we all know the answer.
