I hope you're right, j-g, but what's getting in the way right now are the ISPs that bundle cable TV and dish with subscriptions. That's big money coming in. They can make that without changing anything. To compete with Google (and I don't see Google expanding any more than Verizon FIOS -- hopefully, they'll change their tune), they would have to upgrade their oversold junk networks. That's big money going out. Telcos would rather thow money at LTE than fix anything or run fiber to the home. Cable would rather make big promises about better service and maintain the status quo.
