Keep in mind you can find orbs that change normal white items into rares. There are also orbs that will change attributes or special abilities, as well as globally upgrade items. You can actually change a white crappy item into an uber rare fairly easily. My templar is wearing a yellow rare belt with increased elemental damage and resist that i made with a crappy white belt i found early on
