What range are you looking to get? Start by going to something like creditkarma.com and doing a free credit check of yourself. That will at least give you a vague idea of your credit worthiness and you can figure out the rest given your current income and debt.
Sites like that do a "soft" pull that at least doesn't ding your credit as opposed to applying all over and getting declined which will hurt you for every hard pull.
Unless you're talking about a very low sum of $$$, in which case I'd say just apply to any of the 300 credit card offers you probably see a day.
