RE: World War Z
I think the movie people were also inspired by the Steven Speilberg/Tom Cruise version of War of the Worlds. There are significant differences, though:
1. War of the Worlds is interesting 100% of the time. World War Z excels at derpitude 100% of the time.
2. You care about Cruise and his kids. You don't give two bowel movements about Pitt and his family.
3. The aliens in WotW were wonderful villains. The zombies in L4D: The Important Contribution to the Zombie Film Genre were just stupid. Martians 1 / Zombies 0.
