Subject: My warmage progress

As you may know, my sorceress in OMD2 is so advanced that she has no use for the 1500+ skulls she keeps collecting. So I've been doing endless maps with my warmage. I have completed quite a few of the endless maps and am making good progress. I thought I would share with everyone how I finally -- on the fourth try -- 5-skulled the infamous Breakneck Triad map. (Simulcast on MBM.)

I figured out that I had to do the following:

1. Stay. Away. From. Barricades. Since I routed the orcs to a line of portals at the back of my killbox, and since I blocked off the north spawn point, all this plus my killbox barricades made the orcs very touchy. If I got within ten feet of a barricade, they went berserk and tore everything up.

2. Use haymakers and scorchers to thin out the healer goblins. A huge problem in this map is the presence of those little shits. They like to hide behind earth lords and other heavies, so you can't shoot them or grab them with the windbelt alt-fire. Ergo, I had to come up with two traps that had both damage and physics in order to toss/tip the healers into the abyss. I couldn't get them all, but this method is effective at thinning them out enough to make things manageable.

3. Control sappers. The best way to do this is to use grinders and sacrifice barricades. In the north, I put a grinder a tile and a half in front of a barricade. To protect my killbox, I put a barricade right in the middle between the two western spawn points and used four grinders -- one on each corner and another right around the corner, since the sappers like to hug the wall as they're heading toward that sacrifice barricade. Eventually, I had to put zappers and scorchers in the north tunnel because the grinder wasn't enough. I even had to install a second grinder right next to the first one, and even with all that the sappers were barely being stopped.

4. Kill myself at the beginning of wave 43. This is the second gnoll hunter invasion, and it makes wave 19 look piffly. I can't think of any way to survive wave 43. There must be 50 gnolls, and they spawn-kill you over and over. So at this point, the level is over. Might as well control your own deaths.

I am extremely reluctant to even try Crunch. I'm not sure my blood pressure is up to it.
