RE: My warmage progress
I am going to entitle this post "How I 5-Skulled The West Wing as a Warmage."
The warmage distinction is important because this is really a sorceress map. Although it's still difficult for her, she can use ice vents, which absolutely trivialize all the heavies coming from the north spawn points.
Let me back up a bit and describe the layout of this map.
West wing has three spawn points and two rifts. Monsters heading toward room 1 emerge simultaneously from two spawn points and travel down a double causeway. Monsters heading toward room 2 emerge from a single spawn point. All monsters are headed eventually toward the two rifts, but they must pass through room 3.
The best setup here is Nananea's, which employs a tricky barricade scheme to funnel all monsters through an elaborate killbox in room 3. To make this work, she uses ice vents on the floor, pounders on the ceiling, and boom barrels/wall blades in the area where room 3 converges with the stairs that join it with room 2. She also uses portals.
I decided to use this scheme, but I had to change ice vents to tar. As we know, ice vents completely immobilize monsters, and they (the ice vents) amp up any concussive damage, such as the type generated by pounders and boom barrels. This is an inescapable death trap for seemingly indestructible heavies like water lords and mountain trolls.
To make a long story short, I did fine with tar because I added my trusty crossbow/ice amulet combination. I also used grinders instead of wall blades (more effective). I also added zappers for gnoll control and huge troll damage.
I had some leakage, but I managed to get to wave 42, where I killed myself because I probably wasn't going to last through it, let alone the gnoll invasion in wave 43.
More to come as I close in on the remaining endless maps.
