Maktens Vägar trilogy by Bertil Mårtensson. Some of the better fantasy originally written in the language of heroes and glory... There are some nice fantasy concepts in these books, like the magic ring that changes the sex of its wearer. You could have a lot more fun with that than with the ring in LOTR...
