RE: Jury Duty Today
What a fucking nightname, I barely made it out of there. They were going to actually put me on a jury, ignoring all my attempts to be undesirable. Mind you, this was going to be a trial they estimated to last up to 3 weeks plus however long deliberations took.
Now, I'm self-employeed. A sole-propritior in my business. It's onle me. When I'm not working, I'm not making any money. There is no one to fill in for me. I'm not like all the other yahoos that were selected because no one was paying me to be there. It would have been impossible for me to sit for 3 plus weeks on a trial. I attempted to explain this to the judge several times who's basic response was "sucks to be you". At the very end, after 5 hours of jury selection, the judge asked if both attorneys were satisified with the jury and both said yes. She then had to ask us one last time if we considered ourselves to be able to provide a fair verdict. When she got to me, I said no I would not because I will be more worried about how I'm going to pay my bills next month and not whats going on in the courtroom. The judge again tells me I'm out of luck. As I sit down again fuming, FINALLY! The defense attorney tells the judge that he wants me released because he does not want me to be distracted from the trial. I was the last person released at 6:00pm and some other poor soul from the selection pool had to take my place. I hope this person had a job paying them to be there.
The judge was pissed. I'm sure if I ever come up to her for a criminal case and she remembers me, she will throw the book at me. She was a pompus, self-entitled asshole. Typical Judge mentality.
I watched them release people all day long for the lamest excuses you could think of. One guy was talking on his cell phone in the jury room before we got selected. He had a long conversation with someone speaking perfect english. Once he got selected, he suddenly forgot the language. He was dismissed immediately, but someone like me with a legitimate excuse was forced to stay.
The court also contradicted themselves all day. I must have heard about 50 times how grateful they were that we came in for jury service today and that the system depends on us citizens. Then in the next breath we were all constantly threatened about how if we didn't show up or were late for 1 second for any reason we would be jailed or fined. We broke for lunch at 12:15 and were told to be back at 1:15(of course we were threatened again by this asshole judge that she was VERY punctual. If we were 1 second late coming back they would lock the door and anyone outside would be fined or jailed. Needless to say, barely anyone even went to lunch, fearing that if anything happened what the consequences would be if they couldnt get back. Most of us just stood in the hallway outside for an hour.
I actually cant wait for elections this year because I am voting for whoever is running against this judge, even if it is Necro....
