I honestly don't know what kind of punishment is fair punishment for a child molester (for the sake of the victim, that is). Kidnapping, raping, then killing is IMO probably the most heinous crime one could commit. Of course, where murder is involved, it should certainly be life without parole, or the death penalty.
Where murder isn't involved, is it still fair to offer someone a second chance after they committed a sex crime? The victim will probably be scarred for life - so why shouldn't an offender have some sort of lifelong punishment? Perhaps even castration might be too light, but in reality, it's probably the most balanced solution. If it will mitigate such urges, then I would hope that a child rapist who realizes what they did is wrong would want the procedure - especially since it is doubtful that such an offender would no longer commit such a crime for any reason other than going to jail again. And since it's a sort of fetish, there is probably no other sufficient way of reducing/eliminating urges.
I actually had no idea they were carrying out the procedures in some states in the US. Hopefully all states will adopt this solution, especially since the next best solution is putting them all on an island which occasionally gets bombed.
