Though I'm not strongly religious, I would have to say, even given the slight miniscule chance that there is an afterlife/god/whatever, why wouldn't you choose to believe just to be on the safe side? It would change your behavior (assuming you were normal and not some cultist about it), and you'd actually have something to put faith into when the world is in the shitty state that it is. At the end of your life, there could very well be nothing and the joke would have been on you your whole life, but the alternative seems a lot worse IMO. I dunno. I've talked to too many people on the edge of death in a hospice ward somewhere (my grandmother included) that looked like they were done for, then made a miraculous comeback for awhile and have told stories of seeing the fabled "light" and seeing past loved ones they haven't thought of for decades. It could be there brain shutting down and hallucinating to the image of what they've been taught is the afterlife, but WHO KNOWS MUTHA FUCKAS!?
