spork (spark+fork) totem witch used to be op, now the spell totem skillgem takes a -50% base to spell damage as opposed to the old 40%. there are new passives which increase totem spell damage but the problem is investing what im pretty sure is a total of 7 additional points to accommodate the ancestral bond keynode. also pretty sure the additional totem dmg passives dont compensate for the -10% base spell damage, which would require an additional +20% of damage nodes just to bring back the previous value of -40% on totem
it is how this game works
anyway, i had 3 level 70+ witches who got full passive respecs on update. this allowed me to complete 2 theoretical which builds ive been planning for some time. the first is a dual curse breath of rine ice witch who runs temporal chains + frostbite curse on mobs with a GMP ice spear totem and native LMP ice spear on skill. the combination of temporal chains and ice spear is ez mode murder on most mobs. the temp chains slows them by 30% and causes additional effects to expire 50% slower, so when they are hit by the first phase of ice spear the chilling effect casuses an additional 30% slow effect (for a total of 60%) which renders enemies completely useless, its funny seeing them in super super slow mode. the second phase of ice spear which activates based on a short distance of travel, where the projectile opens up adds an additional 600% chance to land a critical strike (and the base crit chance of ice spear is the highest for any skill in game). all primary elemental ailments activate on critical hit, which would be freezing the enemy completely solid unable to move or attack on strike, plus the freeze effect (not chill) also lasts 50% (+35% from other freeze duration nodes) longer. cold skills are the only skills in game with both a primary and secondary status ailment, so as you can imagine, ice spear is quite devastating as it also has an enormous base dmg in its second form. the problem is, the new boss is tough as fuck by far the hardest in game and cannot be frozen even though he's stacked with two curses.
the only other problem are enemies who are immune to spell damage or all damage, or very rarely sometimes enemies and entire mobs who are immune to curse. so overall i value this build (which was entirely invented by me, seriously i know a lot of PoEfags in teh pro MLG community and none of them know this shit) at around 80% for its usefulness. it is also somewhat moderately gear dependent but can be ran from the ground up with zero stashed gear. unlike my next recommended starter build, which would be a pure summoner/minion instability, which im still experimenting with. i took full mana reservation reduction nodes + eldrich battery, havent geard her up and played it yet. but seems viable as starter build and can be ran entirely independent from specially aquried gear. the end game goal im trying to achieve is to stack as many auras on minions as possible. mainly; hatred, haste, purity and wrath. with the faint possibility of anger.
but yeah, minions in this game are unlike diablo's system. just off the charts you can see vast loads of dmg potential, plus specialized endgame gear too.
