Hollywood is turning out garbage.
I don't even call these people Hollywood anymore. The old Hollywood would never have green-lit something like Seven Psychopaths or The Master or Killing Them Softly. These are shameful wastes of time. They have no wit, no art, no discipline. The term "self-indulgent" is overused, but it fits this rubbish perfectly. In comparison, something like Battleship is a masterpiece. In fact, I like Battleship quite a lot. I also like Wrath of the Titans. I'm not supposed to, any more than I was supposed to like The Wolfman, but at least they were conscious of having a paying audience.
The new stuff pays big stars to waste their time -- and the audience's money -- on the anal rakings of drug-crazed trustfund monkeys who wouldn't be given the time of day if not for nepotism and other influences. I think even the old post-production people are dying off. At least they were capable of taking these brain farts and turning them into more or less decent products.
