johnny's summary of Titanic is exactly right. The love story was dumb. Nobody needed another Titanic movie. Plus, the two things didn't work together at all.
When will everybody leave the Titanic alone? It was an interesting disaster because it shouldn't have happened, but it's become the Princess Di of historical events. Stop making movies about it. If you want a decent Titanic movie, the only one you need is the 1953 version with Clifton Webb and Barbara Stanwick. By comparison, Cameron's version is awful. It's awful anyway, but it's twice as awful after seeing the old version.
Anyway, the LotR movies had some good moments, but the screenwriters seemed to have this compulsion to crap on as many scenes in the books as possible. Tolkien would have had a fit. One of the few characters they got more or less right was Éowyn. Everybody else was loony-tunes.
