Asus laptop update
It continues to work all right, even though I found out that it doesn't officially support Windows 8.1. I guess it got over my attempt to cram a wireless mouse USB thing into it. I mean, the computer itself is fine so far. The problem is Windows 8/8.1.
I have been hunting around in this OS for miraculous improvements. I stumbled across something called "File History." File History is what Windows Backup calls itself these days. If you turn it on and stick an external storage device in a USB port, Windows will start backing up your libraries automatically, and it will keep backing them up every hour by default. What Windows doesn't tell you is that File History will take the equivalent of a geological epoch to do what it does. It will also nag you if you don't keep your external storage device plugged in.
File History is in every way characteristic of the new Microsoft. It's clunky and inefficient. It assumes you're stupid. Like a Jewish mother, it meddles with your life and will not explain itself. It's the perfect backup solution for Windows 8.1, which is one great meddling, enigmatic mess.
If you're still using Windows 7, be kind to it. You have the last sane OS from Microsoft.
