When I talk about the two companies "making cards," of course I mean reference, and that doesn't include Nvidia. The difference in cards is what third parties do to them (fan configurations, departures from reference clocking) and how well they support you (RMA gotchas, turnaround time, etc.). MSI seems to have a decent reputation right now. XFX and Asus not so much. EVGA is okay, I suppose. Anecdotal forum stories are not very helpful unless you see a really big paper trail of unhappiness.
