If you don't mind buying used, you can get a gtx 670 on ebay for about the same price as a 750 ti new, and the 670 is about twice as fast.
As a rule of thumb, reference cards are usually not as good as their non-ref counterparts. That's not saying other companies don't screw up non-ref cards, but it's less common than not.
MSI is a funny company. They seem to bounce between great or horrible design on their products, and every once in a while they put out something ridiculous like this video:
